Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Copy Text: Offline Scanner Android app ("Copy Text", "the app") and this website use, why, and the choices you have. We built Copy Text so your scans never leave your phone, and we have written this policy in plain language.
1. Summary
- No account. You can use every feature without signing up or giving us your name or email.
- Your scans stay on your phone. Camera images, imported pictures and the text recognized from them are processed on your device and are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
- Ads are the only exception. Copy Text is free and shows a few ads. Our advertising partner (Google AdMob) receives limited device information to show and measure ads. It never receives your scans or text.
- We do not sell your personal information.
2. Who we are
Copy Text is developed and published by Peek Coding ("we", "us", "our"). We are responsible for the app and this website. You can reach us at any time at peekcoding@gmail.com.
3. Data that stays on your device
The core features of Copy Text work entirely offline. The following data is created and stored only on your phone:
Camera images
When you scan, the app reads frames from your camera to find and recognize text. Live preview frames are analyzed in memory and are not saved. When you capture a page, the image is kept on your device so you can see it with your scan.
Images you import or share
If you pick a photo from your gallery or share a screenshot to Copy Text, the app reads that image on your device to extract its text. We only access the specific images you choose.
Recognized text and history
Text recognized from your scans, any edits you make, and your pinned items are saved in the app's private storage on your phone so they appear in your History. This data is not synced to a cloud service and is not visible to us.
Clipboard and sharing
When you tap to copy, the text is placed on your device clipboard. When you tap share, the text is handed to the app you pick using Android's share sheet. What happens next is governed by that app's own privacy policy.
Text recognition is performed by an on-device model that is bundled with the app. Your images and text are not sent to a server for processing.
4. App permissions
- Camera. Needed to scan printed text. Used only while the scanner is open. You can revoke it anytime in Android Settings; you can still extract text from images you import.
- Photos and images. When you import an image, Copy Text uses the Android photo picker, which gives the app access only to the image you select, not to your whole gallery.
- Internet and network state. Used only to load and measure ads. Scanning, copying and history work without an internet connection.
5. Advertising
Copy Text is free because it shows a small number of ads. Ads are never shown on the camera screen. We use Google AdMob, an advertising service provided by Google LLC, to serve these ads.
To show ads, measure how they perform and prevent fraud, Google AdMob may collect and process:
- your device's advertising ID (or an app-scoped ID if the advertising ID is not available);
- your IP address, from which an approximate location may be derived;
- device and app information such as device model, operating system version, language and app version;
- interactions with ads, such as views and taps;
- diagnostic information such as crash and performance data of the ads SDK.
AdMob does not receive your camera images, imported pictures, recognized text or history.
Your ad choices
- Consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland). If you are in these regions, the app asks for your consent before personalized ads are shown, using Google's consent tools. You can change your choice from the app's settings.
- Advertising ID. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Android Settings (Settings › Privacy › Ads, or Settings › Google › Ads, depending on your device). Once deleted, ads will no longer be personalized using that ID.
You can learn more about how Google uses data from partner apps at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and read Google's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
6. Other third-party services
Google Play. Copy Text is distributed through Google Play. When you download, install or update the app, Google processes information about that activity under its own privacy policy. We receive only aggregated, non-identifying statistics from Google Play Console, such as the number of installs and crash reports that do not contain your scans or text.
Other than the services named in this policy, we do not share data with third parties.
7. What we do not do
- We do not upload, store or read your scans, images or recognized text.
- We do not require or offer an account.
- We do not track what you scan or build profiles from your content.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not access your contacts, microphone, messages or precise location.
8. Keeping and deleting your data
Because your scans and history live only on your phone, you are in full control of them:
- Delete a single scan by swiping it away in History.
- Delete all app data in Android Settings › Apps › Copy Text › Storage › Clear storage.
- Uninstalling Copy Text removes all scans and history from your device.
If you back up your phone using Android's built-in backup, your device may include app data in that backup according to your Android backup settings. Data collected by Google AdMob is retained according to Google's own policies.
If you email us, we keep your message and email address only as long as needed to answer you and to keep a reasonable record of our conversation, and then delete it.
9. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU and UK GDPR or California privacy laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time.
We do not hold your scans or any account data, so in most cases there is nothing for us to access or delete; your data is on your device and you can remove it as described above. For advertising data, you can use the ad choices in section 5 or contact Google directly. If you have any request or question, email peekcoding@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are: performance of a contract (to provide the app's features), your consent (for personalized ads where required), and our legitimate interests (to show non-personalized ads that keep the app free and to keep the app secure).
10. Children
Copy Text is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
Your scans are stored in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read under Android's security model. Keeping data on your device means there is no copy on our servers that could be exposed. We recommend protecting your phone with a screen lock. No method of storage is completely secure, but we design the app to collect as little as possible.
12. This website
This website is a static information page. It does not use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and it has no forms. Like any website, our hosting provider may automatically log basic technical information (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to deliver and protect the site. The site loads its font from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers. Links to Google Play take you to a site governed by Google's privacy policy.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app or the law changes. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date above. If a change significantly affects how your information is handled, we will also tell you in the app or on the Google Play listing.
14. Contact us
